Reflection on my First Podcast

The purpose of this podcast is to address the benefit and the problem of the impact of social media on politics.

In this podcast, I suggest that social media is reviving the idea of the public sphere in modern society and increasing the number of voters during the election campaign. On the other hand, I also feel that politicians might take advantage of social media to manipulate others to believe in them by spreading fake news which threaten the idea of democracy.

At the beginning of the writing my podcast, I am still unsure on what is the impact of social media on politic, hence I did many of research through reading a journal article as well as the e-book.

By reading some of these sources, it deepens my understanding on how social media able to impact the politics. In fact, I spent many hours to just find the right article which able to support my idea.

To justify all of my assumptions that I mention above, I need to have a scholarly resource. Hence, I referenced from journal article and also from e-book.

With all the scholarly resources I have had, it allows me to have more understanding about the content that I needed to write, and it also acts as evidences so that the listener of my podcast can trust in my statement. I used to do an essay where I need more than two scholarly references so this is not a challenging problem for me.

Besides, scholarly references, I also used some references from twitter which acts as examples in my podcast.

I used a Donald Trump’ twitter account as I mentioned on how politicians use social media to engage with the public.

Process of making Podcast:

Once I completed writing the script, the next step I did was recording the script.

I used a Voice Memos application on my iPhone and then I transferred it to my computer to edit it. I’m editing my podcast with Audacity.

Before the editing process, I watched some YouTube video on how to convert the file format to WAV. I did this because Audacity does not directly accept the recording file from Voice Memos. After I watched few videos finally I able to convert the recording in the form.

Another problem that I face was the editing of the recording, I had so much struggle to edit my podcast. I had listened to podcast before, but this is my first time making a podcast. While editing the recording for this podcast, I learn that is not an easy task to be done and also it takes a long time to edit 6 minutes podcast. As I am not professional yet about editing a recoding, I spent almost 6 hours to edit my recording.

I spent quiet sometimes on searching for music that I think it is appropriate for my podcast. After I found the suitable music, I watched some YouTube video on how to download a

In the intro of my podcast, I used a music from SoundCloud which had a creative common licensed

Overall, making podcasts has given me new insights into how we can actually interact with other people through different types of social media medium. Not only the dissemination of photos or writing, but also conversations. This has been another great skill that I developed on this semester.

Please check my podcast to know how well have I done it.
