Week 2 Workshop Challenge Part 2: Creative Challenge

differences between the Australian Ad and Indonesian Ad

Based on Hofstede’s Country comparison, it shows that Australia and Indonesia have big gap such as in individualism, power distance as well as long term orientation. The scores of individualism, power distance and indulgence for Indonesia are 14%, 78% and 38% respectively. While for the Australia, the score of individualism, power distance and indulgence are 90%, 38% and 71% respectively.

As we all can see there is also totally different advertisement between these two country. For the Australian advertisement, there is no people or family in the picture only the water bottle itself which indicates they are more into individualist culture compared to Indonesian advertisement.

Family is important for Indonesians and the second advertisement which is targeting Indonesian’s customers used a family as the background. Moreover, the slogan of the drink which is in bahasa Indonesia “minuman untuk keluarga” means “drink for the family”. Besides these, there are three Evian’s water bottle that showing a group of water bottle. By using these methods, there will be more people to buy their product and it shows that Indonesian is Collectivist societies.

Another difference is that Australian is an indulgence country . It implies that the people less concerned about spending their money and do what they like .This is can be observed by looking at the different packaging of the drinks that sell between Indonesia and Australia. The packaging in Australia looks more expensive as it shows that the Australian does not mind to spend their money on an expensive mineral water instead of thinking their future.

However, the Indonesian restraint themselves a lot as the advertisement used a normal packaging to targeted Indonesian customer. Despite the packaging of the drink looks ordinary, it is still an expensive drink.

To sum up everything, these two countries have a very different dimension not only on buying things but in their lifestyle too. Hence the advertisement of the same brand will also be totally different.

According to the Hofstede’s Country comparison, it states that Australia and Hong Kong has a huge different in Individualism. Australia has 90% for the individualism while Hong Kong has 28%. Besides that, there is also huge different in indulgence. Australia has 71% while Hong Kong has 17%

It shows that Australia is more into “I”, “me”, and “myself”. Moreover, we can see it by just looking at the Australian ad as it has one person to promote the KFC. On the other hand, the Hong Kong ad using 4 men which shows that it is more to “we”, “us” and “ourself”.

With the mount of the chicken as the background, it shows that the Hong Kong ad trying to grab the audience’s attention as might be the people of Hong Kong restricted themselves to spend their money on buying a junk food. In contrast, the Australia ad is very simple as most Australian will have no restriction on spending their money to buy junk food.

Hush Puppies advertisement

For this advertisement I am trying to use the unexpected but relevant. I am going for the concept of simple and classic as Hush Pussies is known as classic American shoes. I am also use a very simple phrase such as “hush puppies for everything”. However the meaning of this simple phrase can be used by anyone, for anything, and at anywhere.

While for this ad, I used a an attention grabbing. I am trying something new by using a bright colour which is not common to see in the hush puppies ad. With this method I hoping that I can grab audience attention to the ad. I used a bright sky with cloud as the background to show that the shoes is light, comfy and soft.

Pantene Advertisement

https://www.adsoftheworld.com/media/film/pantene_whosayswecant

Pantene a hair cared product such as shampoo and conditioner. The ad is a collaboration between Pantene and Anggun, an Indonesian Singer which also known as strong and independent woman. Moreover, the ad tells us that women can do everything, including a married women and the title of the ad is “#WhoSaysWeCant”.

Originality: Anggun sang a special song for this ad which may not commonly seen in the hair cared company to promote their product.

Flexibility: I don’t feel this ad has flexibility as it only focused on Women. In addition the company also targeting a women to use their product.

Elaboration: I would say the company did a pretty good job as the song presented by Anggun to all powerful women throughout Indonesia, who managed to live beyond expectations which gave us a new kind of feeling about advertisement.

Synthesis: As the Pantene is a hair cared company which means that they wants to promote their product by using someone who has a nice and beautiful hair, it is pretty surprising to see a women wearing a Hijab in this ad. However they did a good job in combining this new idea and it shows that every women can use this product.

Artistic Value: The most powerful creativity is that the song itself. The song that Anggun sang is really powerful song that can motivate other womens which is also attract many audience.

Nike Advertisements

https://www.adsoftheworld.com/media/film/nike_dont_call_me_precious

This is a Nike advertisement from China. The title of the ad is “Don’t call me precious” and the main audience of this are the kids and the parent. It suggesting that if the parent treasured and loved the child, they should support their own child’s passion. Moreover, they can support their child with nike as nike is suitable footware and clothing sport company for children. Plus, they created an ad with mostly children as an actor or actress which can grab the audience’s attention to watch it as there is not much ad with many children. Therefore, I believe that this ad meet two out of the four criteria which is unexpected but relevant and attention grabbing.

This ad is also a nike ad but it comes from United States of America (USA). The target audience of this children especially girls. ” You’re It” is the title of this ad video and the video is using many languages such as English, France and other languages. This ad suggests that we can do what we want as it shows different types of character of the girls and the sport that they love by using the phrase “You’re It”. In my opinion the ad meet the standard of surprise and regularity as well as attention grabbing as they used a cartoon animation to shows that we are in it too.

THE DIFFERENCE AND THE SIMILARITY

The Chinese Nike ad does not using any animation while the USA Nike ad using a lot of animation to grab attention of the audience as well as giving us a surprise. However, the Chinese Nike ad showing us unexpected but relevant ideas as they used a saccharine parental sentimentality towards children which is common in the asian culture but the children want their parent to support them and let them play by their own rules.

On the other, side both of them using children as their main actor/ actress to promote the ad. This method helping the ad to be meet attention grabbing as children can attract many audience. Moreover they created the ad with the aim of everyone can do sports no matter how old are you, whether you are kids or adults you still can do it.
